Extension & GSPA to Hold April Meat Goat Workshop

Normal, Ala.---The Alabama Cooperative Extension System’s Urban Affairs and New Nontraditional Programs unit at Alabama A&M University is teaming up again with the Goat and Sheep Producers of Alabama to offer a workshop on selecting and marketing breed stock. This event will be held April 12 at Alabama A&M University’s Agribition Center located at 4925 Moores Mill Road in Huntsville. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.

This workshop is designed to educate participants about live animal evaluations and to improve success in the commercial meat goat industry. Participants will hear from subject matter experts from across the South, including Louisiana State University Animal Scientist Dr. Ken McMillin and retired Extension specialist, goat rancher, and columnist Dr. Frank Pinkerton.

The Selecting and Marketing Breed Stock Workshop is free and open to the public. An anonymous meat goat show will begin at 1 p.m. followed by a live auction. The GSPA is coordinating the show and auction.
