Check Line 31K on Your Income Tax Form to Help Alabama 4-H
Alabama residents can help support Alabama 4-H programs by checking Line 31K on their state income tax forms.
The Alabama 4-H Income Tax Check-Off bill passed the Legislature several years ago and was signed by Gov. Bob Riley, a 4-H alumnus.
“The Alabama 4-H program is one of the best character educational programs our state has to offer,” Riley said. “4-H, along with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, has played a vital role in shaping the lives of young people in this state.”
Lamar Nichols, state 4-H leader and associate director of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, said funds generated through the Income Tax Check-Off program help 4-H expand programs, reach new audiences and become more innovative with the programs already in place.
In the past four years, more than $33,000 has been donated to Alabama 4-H through the tax check-off program. The money is used to supplement local, regional, state and national programs through resources, training and financial assistance to 4-H’ers. 4-H programs are administered through the Alabama Cooperative Extension System and by dedicated volunteer leaders.
Alabama’s largest youth education organization, 4-H reaches nearly 100,000 youth between the ages of 9–19. 4-H teaches leadership, citizenship, and life skills, and provides programs and activities for youth in rural and urban settings through after school programs, community clubs and special events.
