Tilapia Field Day Demonstration, March 22
The Auburn University Department of Fisheries and Allied Aquacultures will highlight its efforts to grow tilapia using an alternative fuel at an afternoon field day, scheduled March 22.
The project, sponsored by Auburn Fisheries in conjunction with the departments of horticulture and biosystems engineering, will demonstrate how tilapia is being grown intensively in a greenhouse with supplemental heat from a corn-fired burner. Also, in the adjacent greenhouse, Auburn researchers are culturing two varieties of tomatoes and leatherleaf ferns using the same corn-fired burner as the main heating source.
The field day will begin at the North Auburn Fisheries Unit, Thursday, March 22, at 1:30 p.m.
Anyone interested in attending should contact, Bill Trimble, field day coordinator, at (334) 844-4667 by March 20. He also can be contacted at trimbwc@auburn.edu .
