"The Best Marriage I Know" Essay Contest Offered to Alabama 8th Graders
The Alabama Marriage and Family Project at Auburn University in collaboration with the Alabama Children's Trust Fund is sponsoring an essay contest for 8th graders.
To enter, students should write a one- to two-page essay (500 to 1,000 words) telling about a couple they know who has a great marriage. It could be their parents, grandparents, family members, friends, a couple at their church or in their neighborhood.
There will be seven winners, one from each district in Alabama. The winners will receive $50 and an invitation to a special event celebrating marriage Feb. 19 from 2 until 4 p.m. at the State Capitol. Gov. Bob Riley and Mrs. Patsy Riley will be the hosts. The winning couples will also be honored at the event.
Essays must be received by Feb. 6. Send entries to "Best Marriage I Know," Essay Contest, The Alabama Marriage and Family Project, 203 Spidle Hall, Auburn University, AL 36849 or to marriageandfamily@auburn.edu. Essays can also be sent by Fax to (334) 844-4515. Students should include their name, address, phone number, e-mail, school name and district.
