ALABAMA RETIREE RELOCATION CONFERENCE

The Alabama Cooperative Extension System in cooperation with the Center for Economic Development at Jacksonville State University and the University Center for Economic Development at the University of Alabama are sponsoring the Alabama Retiree Relocation Conference, April 18 and 19 at Joe Wheeler State Park in Rogersville, Ala.

“The purpose of the conference is to provide the best educational experience possible for retiree attraction practitioners in Alabama by securing presenters who are recognized leaders in the field and who can communicate their vision to our diverse audience,” says Dr. Tom Chesnutt, a tourism specialist with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System.

The theme for the conference is Road Map to Retiree Attraction and Relocation. Each educational session in the conference will emphasize best practices. Some of the session topics include What’s New in Retiree Attraction at the State Level;” “How the American Association of Retirement Communities Can Assist You in Retiree Attraction Efforts;” and “Planning Your Retirement.” Other sessions will focus on how the Alabama cities of Florence and Monroeville and the state of Mississippi succeeded in attracting retirees.

“Communities throughout Alabama have the opportunity to diversify community economic development efforts by attracting the affluent relocating retiree,” says Chesnutt. “Relocating retirees provide both economic and social benefits to communities of all sizes. They also have substantial incomes not interrupted by down cycles in national or local economies. Furthermore, these individuals are retiring younger, are energetic and willing to become involved, and are forces for positive social change in local communities. Retiree attraction can be successful for most communities in the state.”

The registration fee for the conference is $75 and includes all educational sessions, dinner, breakfast and one lunch. Complete information, including registration details, is located on the conference Web site at www.aces.edu/arrc/.
