Catfish Referendum, March 8

Alabama catfish producers will decide on Tuesday, March 8, 2005, whether to extend a state checkoff program for five more years. The current program has been in effect since 1989 and levies a fifty-cent-per-ton assessment on catfish feed that is manufactured, bought or sold in Alabama.

Any catfish producer who has purchased feed before Feb. 8, 2005, is eligible to vote in the referendum. Each individual, partnership, corporation or other legal entity will have only one vote. Voting will be done by secret ballot in person, and no proxy or mail ballots are allowed.

Producers will be able to vote from 8 a.m. until the close of business at the following polling locations:

AUTAUGA Extension Office, Ag Center
