Extension Wins Poster Contest at Diversity Conference

Two individuals from the Alabama Cooperative Extension System’s Urban and New Nontraditional Unit received awards recently at the Louisiana State University Agriculture Center’s Annual Diversity Conference.

Extension Communications Specialist Jean Hall Dwyer won first place in the poster competition with her presentation “Providing Links to Education Materials for Service Providers and the Hispanic Community.” Multicounty Extension agent Juana Macias won third place with her presentation on “Bridging the Language and Cultural Divide: Increasing Community Relationships Through Effective Outreach Programs and Key Partnerships.”

In addition to receiving a certificate and monetary award, Dwyer was invited to conduct a workshop at next year’s conference. Macias also served on the Diversity Conference Oversight Committee.

Urban Regional Extension Agent Judy Edmond also attended the conference. She has been instrumental in providing diversity programming in north Alabama.

The LSU AgCenter, like Alabama Extension, considers diversity and inclusion an integral part of its mission – to develop and deliver programs that meet the needs of clients from diversified backgrounds.
