Second Annual Wiregrass Conference on Education Set for Jan 6 in Dothan

The Alabama Cooperative Extension System’s Urban Affairs and New Nontraditional Programs is partnering with Troy University’s College of Education in Dothan to hold the 2nd Annual Wiregrass Conference on Education for all
Pre K-12 educators.

"Teaching the Whole Child" is the theme for the Jan. 6 conference to be held on Troy University’s Dothan campus. The conference will begin at 8 a.m. and will adjourn at 4 p.m.

The 2009 conference will focus on strategies that increase classroom teachers’ and school leaders’ ability to teach the whole child. The meeting will include a keynote address, general session speakers and workshops. The target audience includes Pre K-12 educators who affect student achievement in public and private schools across the Wiregrass.

Registration for the conference is $30 for Alabama educators registering before Jan. 3. The registration fee includes all meals, breaks, conference materials and the welcome reception. Registration and general sessions will be held in the Library/Technology building. Workshops will be held in Adams Hall and the luncheon will be held in the Malone building.

The keynote address will be given by Dr. Tommy Bice, deputy state superintendent of education. The general session speaker, sponsored by the Wiregrass Foundation is Chike Akua, founder of Teacher Transformation. The luncheon speaker is Dr. Jack Hawkins Jr., chancellor of the Troy University System.

K-12 educators can earn continuing education units for attending the conference.
