So Easy to Preserve Fruits and Vegetables Workshop a Hit in Cullman County

August 21, 2008

With the rising cost of foods, people across Cullman County are going back to preserving their own garden vegetables and fruits.

Elaine Cole, Alabama Cooperative Extension System Coordinator for Cullman County, has checked the accuracy of more than 100 pressure canner gauges in the past few months.

With this increased interest in home canning, a basic workshop in preserving fruits and vegetables was presented by Angela Treadaway, regional Extension agent on Aug.18 at the county Extension office. More than 35 men and women attended the workshop.

Participants asked questions about unsafe canning methods, and all left the meeting anxious to get home to their canning and freezing tasks.

Another workshop on preserving fruits and vegetables is scheduled for Aug. 22.
