There is an increased interest in growing blueberries in Talladega County. This became evident when 56 people showed up for a Blueberry Workshop at Craft’s Blueberry Farm in Eastaboga on July 18.
Chip East, a regional agent with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, demonstrated step-by-step instructions on growing blueberries from site preparation to pruning and fertilizing.

Talladega County Extension Coordinator Wanda Jurriaans told the group that marketing the berries was easy with a new farmer’s market program in five locations in the county. Contact information for each market was provided.
Participants were given a fact sheet listing the health benefits of blueberries. A blueberry recipe taste test was enjoyed by all as volunteers and Jurriaans prepared a number of blueberry recipes. Each participant also was given a blueberry recipe booklet.
