The Alabama Cooperative Extension System’s Urban Affairs and New Nontraditional Programs unit teamed up with the Lauderdale Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and other agencies to ship boxes to soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The volunteers collected more than 4,500 items from the community. A total of 50 boxes with snacks and personal items were shipped to male and female soldiers. Most of the soldiers were from the Muscle Shoals area.
Urban Regional Extension Agents Mary Andrews and Apriell Burgess both serve on the Lauderdale County RSVP Advisory Board and implement urban and nontraditional programs Extension programs in Colbert and Lauderdale counties.
