Alabama 1995 Statewide Peach Producer Survey

Abstract: The 1995 Peach Production Survey conducted by The Alabama Agricultural Statistics Service included 2,650 acres or 68% of the 3,881 acres currently grown in Alabama. Data collected included tree age, trees per acre and irrigation parameters. Management practices were delineated which included fertility, weed control, insect and mite, and disease control programs. Where pesticides were used, growers reported rates, methods, and times applied. The disease control program also included times of application, i.e. bloom, cover, pre-harvest and post-harvest for peach producers.

There were 2,650 acres of peach trees represented in the survey.

The total current acreage estimate is 3,881 acres.

76% of current acreage are trees 5 years and older.

21% of current acreage are trees less than 4 years old.

Tree spacing for all age trees are 108 trees per acre.

There were 21% or 815 acres irrigated in 1995 with 31% of acreage with irrigation capability.

A total of 95% of the acreage was fertilized in 1995.

A total of 82% of surveyed acreage was treated with herbicide in 1995.
