Installing Acrobat Reader 5.05 on your PC

Instructions are available for installing Acrobat Reader 5.05 from the CTU Master Utility CD and via FTP.

for most off-campus users and others with modem connections

for on-campus users and others with non-modem connections


How to Install Acrobat Reader 5.05 from the CTU Master Utility CD

  1. Uninstall any versions of Acrobat Reader prior to continuing.
    • Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel.
    • Double-click on Add/Remove Programs.
    • Select Acrobat Reader then click Add/Remove.
    • Reboot if prompted.
    • Repeat if additional versions of Acrobat Reader are installed.
  2. Close all programs before proceeding.
  3. Insert CTU Master Utility CD in the CD-ROM drive.
  4. Wait for the main menu to appear.
  5. If the main menu does not appear after a couple of minutes, then click start, run, and type e:\autorun.exe (or if your cdrom is d:, then, type d:\autorun.exe).
  6. From the main menu, select the Browse Utility CD option.
  7. Double-click the Adobe folder.
  8. Double-click the rs505enu.exe file to begin installation of Acrobat Reader 5.05. The InstallShield Self-extracting Exe will start.
  9. At the dialog box reading Acrobat Reader 5.0.5 Setup, Click Next.
  10. At the window labeled Choose Destination Location, click Next.
  11. Wait for Installation process to complete.
  12. At the window labeled Information, click OK.
  13. Acrobat Reader 5.0.5 Installation is complete.

How to Download Acrobat Reader 5.0.5 from the ACES FTP site and Install the Software

  1. Click Start, then Internet Suite, then FTP.
  2. Login as yourself with your user ID and password (not anonymous) to ftp.acesag.auburn.edu.
  3. On the local system, change the directory to the c:\acenet directory.
  4. On the remote system side, chgdir (change directory) to /opt/ftp/pub/win95/Acrobat/Acrobat5 or /opt/ftp/pub/win98/Acrobat5.
  5. Single click on rs505enu.exe
  6. Click on the left transfer arrow in the middle of the ftp screen.
  7. After the file has downloaded, click Exit to exit FTP.
Installing Acrobat Reader 5.05 after downloading with ftp:
  1. Uninstall any versions of Acrobat Reader prior to continuing.
    • Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel.

    • Select Acrobat Reader then click Add/Remove.
