How are CTU and OIT
implementing XP-SP2?
The ACESAG Computer Technology Unit and
AU's Office of Information Technology are coordinating to ensure proper
XP-SP2 implementation within the AU/ACESAG environment and to address
possible speed issues when downloading this very large update. The
DEFAULT XP-SP2 update from Microsoft includes settings that may break
several programs on your PC and laptop such as GroupWise, other mail
programs, McAfee virus protection updates, file/printer sharing, and
some Internet programs. CTU and OIT have created a local server to
provide XP-SP2, and we have customized the update to work properly
within the AU/ACESAG environment.
How do I prepare my computer for
XP-SP2?
ACESAG PCs and laptops that are
registered in AU's Active Directory Domain will receive the XP-SP2
update AUTOMATICALLY -- no action is required by the user. For
computers that are NOT in Active Directory, it is imperative that they
be registered in order for XP-SP2 to be properly installed. Most ACESAG
computers running Windows XP are already registered. You can verify the
status of your PC or laptop by pointing Internet Explorer to http://www.acesag.auburn.edu/ADcheck.
If the ACESAG computer is in Active Directory, you will get a web page
that states " Congratulations! This computer is registered in Auburn
University's Active Directory Domain." If you get an error message,
please contact the CTU Help Desk at 334-844-9660 or acesag@auburn.edu
for assistance with registering your computer.
