Notebook Computers
Each REA will receive a notebook computer.
The reason we have chosen notebook computers, instead of desktop computers,
is that REAs will be expected to travel and work out of more than one Extension
office. A notebook computer will allow REAs to mobile. These notebooks
can be used on any network within the ACESAG network (and Auburn domain).
The notebook computer that will be purchased
will have the following specifications:
Pentium M, 1.5 GHz
(Centrino)
512 MB RAM
40 GB
CD-RW/DVD combo
56K Modem, 10/100 NIC, Intel
802.11B WiFi
14.1" XGA (1024x768) TFT
Windows XP Pro
nylon carry case
touchpad and TrackPoint

Docking Stations
We envision that the county office will have
a central shared location for REAs who are not housed in their office to
have a "work place". This may vary from county office to county office.
In addition to the purchase of the notebook, CTU will be supplying ONE
(1) docking station, keyboard, mouse, and monitor in each county office.
REAs will connect to this docking station if they want EASY access to a
keyboard, mouse, a monitor, and the network.
The notebook computers can connect to the
local networks, even without a docking stations. Also, an external keyboard
(USB), mouse (USB), and monitor can be connected to the notebook with a
docking station.
It may also be necessary for CTU to provide
a docking station for each REA in his/her home county office. We will evaluate
this need on an individual basis one month after the REAs receive their
notebook computers. CECs may request additional docking stations, including
extra monitor, keyboard, and mouse.
While we are expecting to order a notebook
computer for each REA, you may have a reason not to want to use a notebook
computer. If for some reason, you do not think you will be using a notebook
computer, email Anne
Adrian.
