Greenish to purplish, tender, square stems with opposite leaves.

Leaves are rounded, coarsely toothed, deeply veined, and hairy.

At the top the plant, the leaves are directly clasped to the stem.

Similiar in appearance to Purple Deadnettle but upper leaves lack petioles.

Has pinkish purple trumpet-shaped flowers in clusters at the end of the
stems.

Blooms appear in early spring.

Reproduces by seed.

Chemical control must occur before flowering.

Hand Removal or Hoeing.

Improve sunlight, fertilization, soil pH.

Preemergence - atrazine*,
benefin, pendimethalin, isoxaben,
(Apply in the early fall).
