Dallisgrass

  • Perennial summer grass.
  • Grows in clumps from short thick rhizomes.
  • Leaf sheaths at base of plant sometimes rough hairy.
  • Leaf blade, smooth on both surfaces, with a few long hairs at leaf base and behind ligule at base of leaf blade.
  • Seedheads (spikelets) are arranged in four rows on three to seven alternate branches.
  • Reproduces by seed and very short rhizomes.


Control Methods

  • Hand Removal or Hoeing
  • Herbicides:
    • Preemergence - NONE
     
     
    • Postemergence - MSMA* - ( repeated applications).

              - glyphosate (non-selective).
              (Best for spot treating small areas)

    * Use only on bermuda and zoysia; kills centipede and St. Augustine.
