Upright growing weed with strong taproot.

Leaves are thin, smooth-margined, oblong, arranged in two rows on the branchlets.

Inconspicuous flowers.

Reproduces by seed; seeds have a strong light requirement for germination.

Fruit is a round, warty capsule without a stalk, singly attached to the
underside of the branches.

Each fruit capsule contains 6 seeds.
Control Methods

Hand Removal or Hoeing.

Proper mowing height, fertilization, soil pH.

Herbicides:

Preemergence - atrazine*.
(Apply in spring after green-up).
* Excellent tolerance
in centipede and St. Augustine grass.

Postemergence - combination of these products:
(Apply in late spring/early summer to small weeds).
** Use
lower rates on centipede and St. Augustine grass.
Do not use within the root zone of desirable plants, especially dicamba.
