RESPONSIBILITIES

Shane is a Regional Extension Agent and member of the Extension Home Grounds, Gardens, and Home Pests Team. He conducts educational programs and serves the people of Tallapoosa, Coosa, Montgomery, Autauga, Macon, and Elmore Counties.  His home office is located in Tallapoosa County. His major responsibilities include:
  • Home Horticulture
  • The Master Gardener Program
  • Pest Management / Animal Control

Shane's areas of expertise and professional experience includes work involving - trees, insects, native plants, vegetables, home lawns, and wildlife. Shane is also a Certified Arborist.

BACKGROUND AND EDUCATION

Shane is originally from Clay County, Alabama, and a 1994 graduate of Lineville High School. After high school, he attended Southern Union State Community College and Auburn University where he earned his B.S. degree in Agricultural Business & Economics in 1998. He earned his M. Ed. in Agricultural Education in August 2000 from Auburn University. 

While in graduate school and before joining the Tallapoosa County staff, Shane began his career in Extension as an Agent Assistant for the Lee County Extension office from June 1999 to June 2000.  Upon finishing his Masters degree, he joined the Tallapoosa County Extension staff in July of 2000 as an Agent-in-Training.  Two years later, Shane became a County Extension Agent for Tallapoosa County in July of 2002.  He was appointed as a Regional Extension Agent in July of 2004.

PERSONAL

Shane resides in Dadeville with his wife Susan, his son Blake, and his dog Barney.
His hobbies include tennis, hunting, fishing, nature walks and exploration, photography, and gardening.
