Community development is a must for all communities or they fall behind in all forms of assistance for their residents.  Community development encompasses many areas within a county or state.  Some are education, agriculture, industry, recreation, government (city and county), health care, etc.  Extension plays a significant role in helping the development of many of the areas mentioned.

Leadership Tallapoosa County has trained interested people from banks, industry, governments, chambers, individuals, etc. to develop a better understanding of community awareness; community history and orientation; government organization and administration (city/county); state government programs; education; health care; human services; criminal justice system; economic development; and industry.

Alabama Sunrise Region (ASR) Committee is comprised of 15 counties that work together to promote this region.  The committee has members from extension, chambers, county commissions, gas and power companies, convention managers, probate judges, businesses, other industries, individuals and others.

Some community projects have been Taste of Lake Martin, Octoberfest, Christmas in the Park, Creation Plantation, Keebler Park upgrade, landscaping cities and schools which all make our county more desirable.

Lake Martin and the recreational opportunities (boating, swimming, camping, fishing, and hunting) attract many people.  Clean water is a must for these activities and this lake is one of the cleanest in the state.
