The 4-H and Youth Development Program seeks to give young people the knowledge and training they need to reach their full potential.  Through 4-H programs, young people develop life skills in leadership, communication, decision making, problem solving, goal setting, record keeping, character building, and personal responsibility, as well as, build knowledge and skills in their areas of interest.  The four H's - head, hands, heart, and health - remain central even as program offerings expand to meet new social and educational needs.

Program goals of 4-H include:
  • Developing leadership capacity
  • Fostering environmental stewardship
  • Enhancing personal development
  • Building communities
  • Preparing for careers
  • Understanding science and technology

Extension partners with many associations, businesses, government agencies, and individual volunteers to provide the hands-on learning opportunitites that are the hallmark of 4-H programs.
