TALLAPOOSA COUNTY
4-HERS… NOT JUST
HORSIN’ AROUND
The Alabama 4-H Master
Horseman’s Clinic took place on December 8th at Auburn University.
It proved to be a day of great fun and
education for 4-H youth and adults from Tallapoosa County! This clinic offered two tracks to participate
in: Equine Education and
Horsemanship. The Equine Education track
consisted of educational workshops for youth and adults to learn about
nutrition,
reproduction, preventative health care and locomotion (how the horse
moves). The Horsemanship track offered
an opportunity for youth to have riding lessons, in both english and
western
disciplines, with the Auburn University Equestrian Team Coaching staff. The AU Equestrian Team horses were used as
the teaching tool to allow the riders to focus on their individual
horsemanship
skills. The riders ranged from beginner
to advanced levels. The following Tallapoosa County youth and adults
participated in
this 4-H event: Rachel Lamberth, Rebecca
Oliver, Dee Tuggle, Josh Poole, Lindsey Poole, Madison Sims, Jonathan
Pearce,
Denita Oliver, Dr. James Poole, Melinda Poole and Dr. Howard Poole.
Tallapoosa County 4-H provides
hands-on, minds-on learning opportunities for youth ages 9-19 in a wide
array
of educational topics like animal science, natural resources,
leadership and consumer science…. just to name a few!
Currently, 4-H is looking for local
volunteers to work with youth in community
clubs, special interest clubs and through school enrichment programs
such as
Jr. Master Gardener, Ag in the Classroom, and 4-H Wildlife Stewards. It’s a wonderful opportunity for both youth
and adult to make a positive impact in one another’s life.
