Fifteen Complete Master Gardener Course

For the ninth year in a row, the Tallapoosa County Extension office has conducted a Master Gardener course for area residents. On December 2, 2005, fifteen participants wrapped up and completed the Master Gardener program. Participants spent over 40 hours of classroom instruction and hands-on training studying the many areas of horticulture and learning how to be better gardeners and volunteers.

This years participants were: Mary Arnold, Tony Birchfield, Patrick Cooley, James Herring, Jane Kile, Debbie Nigh, Frank Pearson, Martha Perry, Shirley Pugh, and Emily Whitten, all of Dadeville; Harry and Roberta Wyckoff of Alexander City; and Rebecca Hagan of Stewartville in Coosa County.

The 2005 Master Gardener Program was taught by Extension specialists, Extension agents, and local master gardeners. Topics discussed included: soil and plant nutrition, plant physiology, composting, plant pathology, pesticide education, landscape design, fruit culture, weed identification & control, entomology, plant propagation, home lawn care, vegetable gardening, care & maintenance of landscape plants, interior plants, and bedding plants.
