Wood Science Demonstration

OBJECTIVES
-
To develop leadership among 4-H members.
-
To develop skill in the use of tools.
-
To develop skill in the care and conditioning of tools.
-
To develop safety habits in the use of woodworking tools.
-
To acquire experience in demonstrating to others the fundamentals of wood
science.
WHO MAY PARTICIPATE
-
Any Tallapoosa County Junior or Senior 4-H’er.
RULES
-
The text of the demonstration should be prepared by the 4-H member.
The demonstration should be given orally by the 4-H'er without script.
Note cards are permissible.

Visual aids, such as posters, or other effective ways designed by the 4-H’er,
are recommended and may be utilized to further explain the demonstration.

The demonstration may relate to any topic dealing with wood science, such
as safety, building an item made of wood, wood uses, wood characteristics,
proper operation of a woodworking tool, etc.

Equipment and materials for demonstration must be provided by the contestant.

Assistance given the contestant in staging the demonstration shall be limited
to:

Setting up the props for the demonstration and removing them again.
-
Handling or exhibiting the equipment.
-
Serving as a "subject" to illustrate a certain feature of the demonstration.
-
After the demonstration starts the 4-H'er is responsible for all staging
done.
-
Time for the demonstration shall be limited to not more than 10 minutes.

County winner will attend sub-district.
-
Appropriate dress: Neat clothes, preferably in green and/or white.

Contestants will be evaluated using a score sheet like the one attached.
