Livestock Exhibition

OBJECTIVES
  1. To teach youth to accept the responsibility of caring for and training livestock animals, such as, heifers, steers, breeding ewes, market lambs, market hogs, meat goats and/or milk goats.
  2. To teach youth the proper method of grooming and showing livestock animals.
  3. To establish a better working relationship within the family.
  4. To demonstrate livestock selection, feeding, breeding, production, and management practices.
  5. To identify the degree of quality and finish necessary for an excellent meat product.
  6. To teach the value of the proper competitive spirit.
  7. To provide visibility to the beef cattle, dairy cattle, swine, sheep, and goat industry .
  8. To develop leadership, character, and citizenship qualities.


WHO IS ELIGIBLE:

  • Any bona fide 4-H Club member with a steer, heifer, sheep, or lamb project is eligible for the State Shows.  Area shows are open to specific counties in that area.  See catalogs for rules and regulations for individual shows.  For more information on this project, contact your County 4-H Extension Agent or local 4-H Club Leader.
