Compact Lawn Tractor
Operation


This contest deals with the care and operation or compact, garden, lawn and other riding type tractors (12 to 14 horsepower), lawn care, business management and safety.

Objectives

  1. Business skills- advertising, customer relations, managing business time, keeping records, financial decisions, gaining responsibility, and earning money.
  2. Lawn care- practicing accepted methods for lawn clean up, mowing, trimming and watering, and dealing with lawn problems.
  3. Small engines- maintaining power equipment used for lawn care, servicing small engines, and learning operation principles.
  4. Safety- using power safety techniques in the operation and repair of power equipment.


Who Can Participate

  • Any Tallapoosa County Junior or Senior 4-H’er. 
  • RIDER SAFETY- OPERATORS OF LAWN TRACTORS MUST BE FIVE FEET (5’) IN HEIGHT OR A LEAST BE ABLE TO DEPRESS THE BREAK, CLUTCH PEDAL AND/OR ACCELERATOR PEDAL. OPERATORS MUST NOT BE ALLOWED TO DRIVE IF THIS CONDITIION IS NOT MET.
Contest
The contest includes:
    1. Written examination.
    2. Identification of machine parts, weeds, tools, etc.
    3. Compact tractor safety and operation.


    Participants accumulate penalty points based on errors, mistakes and wrong answers. The low score wins.


District

The first place Junior and Senior will be eligible to participate in district.
