Forestry Judging Team

The Alabama 4-H Forestry Judging Program is a competitive event designed to help 4-H'ers develop their natural resources knowledge and skills.  Teams of three or four from each county will compete in six forestry team events:

  1.  Tree Identification
  2.  Tree Measurement
  3.  Compass Traverse
  4.  Insect and Disease Identification (senior team only)
  5.  Forest Evaluation (senior team* only)
  6.  Forestry Quiz (seniors only)
  7.  Forestry Bowl (optional)


The purpose of the Alabama 4-H Forestry Contest is to provide the opportunity for 4-H'ers from all counties to:

  • Develop leadership talents and to work toward achieving character development and effective citizenship.
  • Develop appreciation of the need and importance of conserving natural resources as sources of products and services necessary for quality living.
  • Acquire information and understanding of practical forestry skills.
  • Choose a team to represent Alabama at the National 4-H Forestry Invitational.


* Individuals (incomplete team) will be allowed to participate for practice purposes only.
