More than 200,000 people call Montgomery County home and the mission of the Montgomery County Extension Office is to improve the lives of those people.
One of Extension's key roles is helping families and individuals improve their quality of life through food safety, proper nutrition, food preservation, parenting, family financial management including consumer protection, and improved health.
Flagship programs include the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP), begun in Alabama--and Montgomery County--more than 30 years ago and since adopted by all other states, and the federally mandated Nutrition Education Program (NEP), which focuses on educating food stamp recipients.
Many programs target adolescents with special efforts to improve the quality of parent-adolescent relationships.
