What is 4-H?
4-H is a learning-by-doing education program for boys and girls that is offered as part of the youth development and education program of the Lauderdale County office of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. 4-H helps young people learn to make decisions, think critically, build relationships, practice leadership, and develop a concern for their community and their world.
At your school, 4-H …
- Meets once a month in your child’s classroom (Oct, Nov, Jan, Feb, Mar)
- Presents programs on character education, health, agriculture and more
- Offers optional projects and competitions to help students develop life skills
Does 4-H cost anything?
No! There are no dues. The projects usually need supplies that are items found around the home.
Does my child have to do 4-H?
Your child will receive the educational program as part of his or her class, but the projects and competitions are optional. Your student may want to do one or two projects throughout the year or he or she may be interested in several. We also understand that families are busy, and 4-H projects may not fit into the family schedule.
What kinds of projects are offered?
4-H offers a variety of projects from public speaking to baking to building to sewing. The calendar of events on the back tells you exactly which projects are available each month.
