What is The Plant Diagnostic Lab?
Basic InformationWhether your oak tree is looking sick or your lawn has patches of dead and dying turfgrass, we are here to help solve your plant problems. The primary goal of the Plant Diagnostic Laboratory is to provide residents in Birmingham metro area (Jefferson, Shelby, Walker, Blount, and St. Clair Counties) with both accurate diagnoses of plant diseases and insect pests and recommendations for their control. The lab operates throughout the year to provide plant disease and insect identification services to extension agents, individuals, consultants, and commercial producers. Samples can be brought or mailed to the lab for analysis, see the location and directions below. For more information on how to collect a sample for diagnosis, refer to the section on "Sample Collection".

Location and DirectionsAddress: 2612 Lane Park Rd., Birmingham, AL 35223-1802. Directions: Take 280W to Mountain Brook. Exit at the Zoo Exit. Turn left at the first traffic light onto Cahaba Road. Turn immediately right onto Lane Park Road. Look for the sign for the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. The lab is located on the second floor of the main building at the gardens.
