New Leaf Program Comes to Coosa County

The Human Nutrition, Diet and Health Section is working toward developing a Community Action Plan to combat obesity in the Cottage Grove area and has called upon Jacklyn Thomas to assist them in developing those plans. Mrs. Thomas is a resident of the Cottage Grove area and for several years has been working with the Alabama Department of Public Health in implementing a nutrition program entitled "A New Leaf" at the Peace and Good Will Church's Life Center in Cottage Grove. Because she is an active participant in all that she does, she will be assisting the Numan Nutrition, Diet, and Health Regional Extension Agents Donna Shanklin and Sharon Haynes in many activities outside of the research portion of the community action planning work. Mrs. Thomas attended the Diabetes and Obesity Conference in Prattville, April 2 - 4, and came away from the meeting with lots of information and a greater interest in helping Coosa County residents become more active participants in their health.
