April 23rd & 24th, 2012
Cane Creek Community Gardens
@ McClellan
Over 800 Calhoun County 4th graders took their annual Earth Day Field trip to McClellan on Monday and Tuesday, April 23rd & 24th.. Earth day creates an opportunity to teach students why protecting the environment is important and how they can help. Each class rotated thru "stations" with learning themes such as: "Where our Food Comes From", "Recycling", "Water Quality", "Farm Life" (students got to pet baby goats), "Electrical Safety", "Water Safety" (which included learning to paddle a canoe!), "Water Conservation with Oscar the Robot", "Healthy Homes / Radon Awareness" , and even participated in the "Birds & Worms Relay", which taught them about camouflage in nature.
Special thanks to the MANY volunteers and sponsors who made this day possible. Over 75 volunteers were part of the 2-day event.
