I hope your new year is going well. The Regional Extension Agents working in our county have quite a few programs and events scheduled for the next few weeks. Here is information about the various meetings:
Volunteer Caregiver Program
Caring to Help Others is an 8-week program to prepare volunteers to assist caregivers of Older Adults. The Baldwin County Extension Office is working with several agencies to plan this program for this spring. Topics will include: Overview of the Aging Process and Related Health Changes/Challenges, the Role of the Caregiver, the Considerations of the Primary Caregiver, Primary Caregiver Responsibilities, Dealing with Relationships, Help and Where to Find It. Gulf Coast Fruit & Vegetable Meeting
All fruit and vegetable growers are encouraged to attend this meeting on Wednesday, January 25. The meeting will be at the Jon Archer Ag. Center, 1070 Schillinger Road, Mobile. The topics will include citrus, vegetable varieties, citrus insect control and more industry related issues. For more information, contact James Miles at 574-8445.
Worker Protection Standard/Private Pesticide Applicator Training
This program is scheduled for Thursday, February 9 at 8:30 until Noon. The training will be at the Baldwin County Fairgrounds Coliseum on Palmer Street in Robertsdale. If you need additional information, please contact James Miles at 574-8445 or Chazz Hesselein at 342-2366.
Master Tree Farmer
The Alabama Cooperative Extension System and the Alabama Sustainable Forestry Initiative, in collaboration with Clemson University and Extension Forestry professionals throughout the South, will again be offering the Master Tree Farmer level II short course for forest landowners. The short course is scheduled for live satellite broadcast from Clemson University beginning Tuesday evening, February 7th, 2006 and continuing every Tuesday evening through March 21st. The live broadcast will be from 6:00 p.m. -9:00 p.m. with two breaks in the program. The sessions will be hosted at the Baldwin County Extension Office, 302A Byrne Street, Bay Minette, Alabama 36507.
The topics will include: Managing the Forest Site; Forest Management Options; Forest Health; Controlling Unwanted Vegetation; Best Management Practices and Water Quality; Forest Measurements and Forest Products; and Wildlife Habitat Management and Landowner Success Stories. The cost of the course is $100 for all seven sessions. Fees include access to the satellite program, notebook and speaker note materials and breaks.
