Support Alabama 4-H with Charlotte’s Web
Alabama movie goers can help support 4-H Youth in the state and enjoy a classic tale of loyalty, trust and sacrifice by purchasing tickets online to see the new movie version of the children’s book Charlotte’s Web in theaters nationwide beginning December 15. For every ticket purchased through www.fourhcouncil.edu, Hollywood Movie Money will donate $1 to 4-H. Tickets to Charlotte’s Web are now available for purchase.
For Alabama 4-H to receive the benefit, patrons must purchase their tickets through www.fourhcouncil.edu. Click on “Buy Movie Tickets” link, where you’ll be taken to a purchase page at Hollywood Movie Money. By entering a local zip code, movie goers will be able to purchase tickets at their local theatre with a credit card. The price of the ticket is determined by the local movie theater. Movie goers will receive a certificate for each ticket purchased and a receipt for the total purchase price along with a $1 donation per ticket to support 4-H. Ticket buyers also have the option to make an additional donation. State 4-H programs will receive 100 percent of donations as determined by zip codes entered at purchase.
Lamar Nichols, assistant director for 4-H and Youth Programs with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, said he hopes Alabamians will take advantage of supporting youth and enjoying a family movie. All money donated to Alabama 4-H will be sent to local 4-H programs in Alabama’s 67 counties. “Alabama 4-H is excited to have the opportunity to partner with a movie like Charlotte’s Web and for many, many people to learn about the benefits children receive by being a 4-H’er,” Nichols said.
In 4-H, youth have fun, make friends and learn leadership and life skills. 4-H partners with America’s land-grant universities to give more than 6.5 million young people hands-on experiences in science, engineering and technology, healthy living, leadership and citizenship. Charlotte’s Web features the 4-H emblem, and the themes portrayed speak directly to the great work that 4-H does in developing youth, building friendships, commitment to goals and having fun, according to Donald T. Floyd, Jr., president and CEO of National 4-H Council. It stars Dakota Fanning as Fern, and the voices of Julia Roberts and 4-H alumnus Reba McEntire, as well as many other noteworthy actors.
For nearly 100 years, Alabama 4-H has been a guiding force in the lives of youth. 4-H is the largest youth development organization in Alabama, with nearly 100,000 youth participating in clubs, programs, projects and events statewide. Alabama 4-H is currently running an $8 million Campaign for Alabama 4-H through the Alabama 4-H Club Foundation, Inc. To date, more than 500 corporations, foundations, organizations and individuals have supported the Campaign for Alabama 4-H, giving $5.8 million. The campaign is raising money to construct the Alabama 4-H Environmental Science Education Center, the first sustainable building in the Southeast specifically designed to teach environmental issues using sustainable practices, and to endow 4-H programs statewide.
