At present (1JAN2006), each CAFO under Section 335-6-7-.18 Continuing Education and Training Requirements of the ADEM AFO/CAFO Rule needs 12 hours of initial training and 6 hours of annual training for re-registration. Training topics include: land application, nutrient budgeting, proper facility operation and maintenance, good housekeeping, chemical/fuel management, proper dead animal and waste product disposal, record keeping requirements, emergency response to power failure, system failure, or unpermitted discharge, and spill response and clean-up. Training can be group or individual on-farm.
