Arbor Day Foundation

Dear Educator:

I invite you and your fifth grade students to be a part of the 2009 Arbor Day National Poster Contest sponsored by The Alabama Cooperative Extension System, Alabama Urban Forestry Association, The Alabama Forestry Association, Legacy, Inc., The National Arbor Day Foundation, Toyota, and Governor Bob Riley’s office.  You may request a booklet intended to increase your students’ knowledge about the importance of trees and your knowledge of contest procedures by registering your classroom using the "School Enrollment Form" link above.

Encourage your students to design an original poster depicting the 2009 Contest theme - Trees are Terrific…in Cities and Towns!  You may use all or any part of the activity guide to help your students appreciate the importance of trees and Arbor Day.  Please read contest guidelines on page 22 in the activities guide carefully.  Only posters that meet guidelines will be eligible. Please follow guidelines closely.

Only school winners (1 per school) will be eligible to compete in the state contest.  The Alabama state winner receives cash and prizes provided by program sponsors.  The state winning poster will then go on to compete in the national contest.

Please complete the School Winner Report Form and send it with the winning poster from your school to Alabama Arbor Day Poster Contest, 1702 Noble Street, Suite 108, Anniston, AL 36201. It must be received by February 10, 2009.

I am excited about the opportunity this contest provides Alabama’s fifth grade students to foster tree planting and to receive education regarding the importance of trees to our way of life.

Sincerely,

arborday
