Other programs open to all youth are provided through 4-H clubs, organized on a county or town basis around interests the children have. Some children pursue programs in science and technology, some pursue agricultural interests and others pursue leadership and character-building opportunities.

Q : How does 4-H stack up against other child-based organizations?

In Alabama, 4-H is the only youth development organization that is supported by researched-based information provided through our land grant system. In addition, everycounty 4-H program is led by an individual with at least a bachelor’s degree. Most
4-H youth professionals have earned a master’s degree.

4-H is coed. It serves boys and girls ages 5-19, making it unique among other child-serving organizations such as the Boy and Girl Scouts and the Boy and Girl Clubs. 4-H reaches nearly 60 percent of all 5th graders in Alabama.

All private support that is given to the Alabama 4-H Club Foundation, Inc., goes toward supporting the 4-H youth, not administrative costs, which are covered
through the Alabama Cooperative Extension System’s budget. Alabama 4-H is committed to using all private resource dollars for youth and their needs.
